For the last two weeks, NewVision Solutions Limited has been working on the promotional activity of raw jackfruit. Raw jackfruit can be eaten as a vegetable and it is popular among a large portion of people in Bangladesh.
Due to the processing barriers, people are unwilling to buy a whole green jackfruit and that is why NewVision Solutions Limited is trying to popularize the processed green jackfruit.
However, due to lack of post-harvest processing and management technology in Bangladesh, these are not widely produced, so there is a loss of about 30-35% of the total production every year, which is more than BDT 500 crore per year.
According to Mr. Tareq Rafi Bhuiyan, Managing Director of NewVision Solutions Limited, “The project is aimed at reducing the wastage of fruits in the country as well as increasing the export of processed products.”
Technical support is being provided by Dr. Golam Ferdous Choudhury, Sr. Scientific Officer of the postharvest technology department, Bangladesh Agriculture Research Institute (BARI). This promotional activity is being conducted under a project called “POSTHARVEST MANAGEMENT, PROCESSING, AND MARKETING OF JACKFRUITS” which is funded by Krishi Gobeshona Foundation (KGF).
Bangladesh Agriculture Research Institute (BARI) and NewVision Solutions Limited are jointly undertaking the project.
